We sold our house in IL (1 week on market, full price!), so I'll be joining hubby shortly in our temp apartment in Cary. We're pretty much sure we don't want to live in Cary or Apex (we like more space, less traffic), but other than that, we're open--from west of Hwy 1 at Wake Forest to North Durham to Hillsborough, sort of down towards Chapel Hill to Pittsboro.

We'll be needing a bank that has enough locations that it won't matter where we move after our stint in the Cary apartment. Any recommendations?

Can't wait to get there and start looking at properties!
Thanks,
Tab

I have been with BB&T for nearly 12 years, with no issues and good location availability.

Wachovia is great. Great customer service. Tons of locations around the Triangle.

I don't know who has the most branches in the area, but Bank of America, BB&T and Wachovia all have a pretty big presence here.

Coastal FCU is what I use. Credit Unions > Any monster mega bank. Coastal has all the bells and whistles of the big banks (online banking/bill pay).

If you can get in with one of the Credit Unions, they are a great choice. We just moved a lot of our money from Bank of America to the State Employees Credit Union (I got the account there because a relative has an account there). I liked BoA's online banking, but their face-to-face service left something to be desired. It may have been just our local branch, but I always stand there for a good 15 minutes before I get service. At SECU I stand there for not more than 15 seconds and get service.

I will second State Employees Credit Union!
They are much better than any regular bank in terms of fees, customer service, etc. Most credit unions are.
They have lots of convenient locations as well. Seems they have built many new ones in recent years in popular neighborhoods.

I would recommend RBC. Great service and branches all over. Their US headquarters are in a swanky new building downtown.

Just read the personal finances section on the million reasons BofA is awful

Wachovia are in turmoil given the takeover by Wells Fargo, but all the people I know working there are great
