Previous post of the board reccomend several stores for running shoes and experts on shoe fitting for normal and problem fit. I assume most of these services are aimed at runners and/or adults. These stores I have info on are Omega, 9th streeet active (durham), Inside out (cary) and bull city running (durham).
I have a 11 year old son with major hammer toes and other foot issues that will be resolved through surgery when he is older (once the foot plate stops growing) but for now he is heading off to camp in a few weeks (lots of physical activity) and I want to find him some good shoes now so he can break them in....Would anyone reccomend one of the stores above to deal with kids and their particular needs - I also don't want to pay 100's of dollars for shoes that may not fit when school starts so cost is a concern but I am willing to pay more to ensure he does not injury himself due to poor fitting shoes.
My DD plays basketball and has a really low, almost flat arch. I went to Try Sports in the Crabtree Valley Mall (Raleigh) and they were wonderful. They have all kinds of shoes for most sports and they have shoe inserts that mold to the feet. Since I had already purchased basketball shoes, we went with the inserts and it made a world of difference for her. You may give them a try. They even have a treadmill in the store and will take video analysis of the way the foot moves as the person runs.
