Hi Folks,

Can I get a run down of the best school districts in the Triangle Area?

Thanks for info you'd be willing to share!

You are asking such a broad-based question...you are going to get either ignored or answers will be all over the place. We are flux right now with Wake Co schools. Perhaps you can provide more info such as where you are considering moving here so that they can narrow down which school "system" you need info on. For example, good schools in Chapel Hill, but you wouldn't want to work in Raleigh. The area is very spread out. And within a school district, there are good and bad schools...way too much to get into here. If you are considering Raleigh area, you'll want to read the numerous threads on wake co schools to get a better sense of what's going on here.

Thanks for the reply, RaleighLass.

We are truly starting our relocation search with top public school districts as our first criteria / priority. At this point we are not concentrating on cities or towns. We will start that process after receiving feedback on where the top school districts are located within the Triangle.

Thanks.

School districts are county based. Individual schools within a county will be better or worse than others. You need to look at each county and then the individual schools. Wake is doing some type of bussing so schools are not necessarily neighborhood based. You need to check a neighborhood then the school(s) that are serving that neighborhood.

Yeah, I don't know where you're coming from, but in this area, county=school district except for Orange county which has two. So just look up the web pages of Wake County, Durham county, Orange County, Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Chatham county and maybe Johnston county. That's the districts.

Ok, then for this area, Chapel Hill/Carrboro schools. For a taste of what to expect living in Wake Co, see my blog posting for today....I am pretty irritated with Wake at the moment. They're shifting kids to and from Wakefield (n. Raleigh) and Wake Forest schools as part of their overall plan to get kids into neighborhood schools, yet they are moving kids to schools other than neighborhood, it's a mess. It can't be achieved though as there isn't sufficient capacity in most areas without moving kids to other areas.

Not necessarily. We live in Chapel Hill and my DH works in Raleigh. The commute both ways is against traffic and generally he can travel at posted speed limit the whole way.

While I was talking generally and used this as an example, certainly this can be true of driving on the highway. I've driven on I-40 to Durham in 30 mins from Wade Ave to Downtown Durham. But the issue is where in Raleigh once travels from. Going on the beltline or many of the feeder roads in Raleigh to get onto I-40 is totally jammed up during rush hr. Every Monday I drive from hwy 64 New Bern Ave to Hillsborough St near the Wade Ave/40 exit. Some days I can do it 15 mins, many days it's 30-45mins. Add this to the drive from 40 to Chapel Hill..who would choose to do this?

My point is that a newcomer to the area would, while they have the opportunity, want to move as close to their work as possible. I've commuted from Raleigh to Durham for at least 7 yrs and have seen some helacious commutes including the rare ice occurance that locked up traffic. It took me from 3pm ish to `12 midnight to get to East Raleigh from downtown Durham. My neighbor who is a cop in Chapel Hill area commutes against traffic but his commutes are non rush hour so it works for him.
