I ask, why is this apparently the only part of the country where this (well regarded -- 88% at Rotten Tomatoes) movie has been released? My parents have seen it in south Florida; friends have seen it in St. Louis and New York. But here? Not playin' anywhere. Not in Durham. Not in Raleigh. Not in Chapel Hill. It's opening next Friday in Greensboro, but no word about this area yet. What is this, nowhere land? Yeesh.

Very annoying...
If you bothered to look at the movies own web site, you'd see that they are not releasing it to this area until August 7th.
Oh...and a quick google search showed that the N&O was even given away preview tickets for an advanced screening.
Yeah...this area is horrible. You really should find somewhere else to move to based on when this movie is being released to The Triangle.

Silly me, relying on Fandango. So I go to the movie web site, which redirects to a Fandango competitor, enter my zip code, and ask for showings within 40 miles of my zip code (27517) next Friday. The response:
Quote:
Sorry, no theaters are available within 40 miles of zip code 27517 that are playing the movie "(500) Days of Summer" on Friday, Aug. 7.
So thanks for the gentle advice. And I'm sorry, a good substitute is supposed to be going to a newspaper's website to go to a one-time-only preview screening (which is already filled up)?
Anyhow, my comment is not on the area, but on the fact that the movie companies don't think this area is big or sophisticated enough to be a good spot to release a smaller, more nichey movie before a place like Orlando. A dumb decision on their part, is what it is. And your point that they are releasing it here on August 7 proves my point that it's not being shown now.
Yeah well...the triangle really isn't known for its art films. Usually we get them close to last nationwide. It is painful for a film buff like me.
