I'd say the Carrboro Farmers market is pretty amazing. Just realize what it is, a local farmers market. Only produce, cheese, meats, etc produced within the local area (50-70 miles, not sure the exact distance) are sold there. So you'll have a larger variety of produce at the raleigh farmers market, but most of the time it'll be shipped in from out of state (or from out of the country...bananas for example). Whereas at the Carrboro (and Durham) markets the produce is harvested ripe and local, and therefore the selection will be seasonal.

Toot,

About how many stands or booths are there on average?

I guess I don't need it to be huge though in my mind's eye it is. It just has to have good produce at a price that isn't too outrageous.

On saturdays from May-August, I'm guessing there's in the range of 40-60 vendors? The Weds sessions are a little less than half the size of Saturdays.

I have to say I think it's great and all to conserve, buy locally, eat healthier & do your part to conserve but..... isn't it funny that some of these same people live in huge homes (much more than they need) have numerous cars, which ofcourse 1 must be a big suv and have all kinds of items that aren't really a need.
Plz don't misunderstand me, I'm all for conserving but it goes much further than just food. I see many jumping on the "band wagon" yet a family of 4 living in a 5000sq ft home w/cars, toys etc - how is that conserving??
Just a thought..hmmm

well, I can personaly say that I live in a small home, on a wodded lot, drive a non SUV AND shop the farmers market. I'm far from homegrown hippie, but I shop the local farmers because of TASTE (the fresher the better) more than economics.

Toot68,

40-60 vendors!!!!! How can I not be impressed by that. My local Farmer's Market only had two or three when I went to it. I can't wait to get down there.

Yes. I believe that they have tours on Saturday at 1pm. I just met the brewer last Wednesday evening at a private tour. Nice guy.
