Well it is finally actually happening, the movers are coming next Thursday to load up the truck. With any luck at all my family and I will roll into Raleigh some time on Saturday 8/23. We will immediately start looking for a rental house and in a perfect world will move in around Sept 1. From here, we will take a year to get to know the area and then some time in 2010 move into our "dream home".

We are looking closely at the Apex area. North Raleigh and Chapel Hill seem to have a lot of rental availability also. I like Wake Forest but seems to be very few rentals (at least in my price range).

Would appreciate any tips or suggestions others might have, and if you know of a really good deal on rental house right now then I would love to hear about it!

I work from home, so employment and commute is not an issue.

Our criteria is:
1. $1200 - $1400 for a decent 3BR rental house
2. family friendly, activities, sports, etc (I have two 3-year-old boys)
3. very safe, low crime

Thanks!

I don't have any advice (know nothing about rental market) - but good luck with the move, and welcome to Raleigh!

My sister in law moved from LI to Apex last year and loves it. Her parents just sold their house on LI and are moving to Cary or Apex late September. My sister in law bought right away and really lucked out.The inlaws are looking to rent. I will alert my sister in law of your post. She has a very reliable realtor that has been scouting whats available for her parents so maybe she can pass on information to you.

We are looking at a potential 2010 move ourselves. I also work from home, my twin boys are 8, daughter 5. Looking at Apex, Cary, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest. Will probably end up in Apex or Cary, close to her family.

Good luck with the move.

Well here I am in Raleigh and with the help of an awesome realtor I met through city-data (Hot Rocks) we have found a great rental house in Fuquay-Varina.

It is so great to finally see in person all the things I have read so much about on this forum - downtown Apex, beautiful Cary, Tony C's restaurant. Heck, I even saw Mike Jaquish in the Cary Chick-Fil-A! Now I just need to find the "Screwed by the town of Cary" house and my visit will be complete.

Let the house-hunting begin!

I saw the "Screwed by town of Cary" house. Is something special about it?

The reference was just to the fact that it's been a topic of extended conversation on this forum.

We don't have Megamillions, we have Powerball--which someone just won a week or so ago so it's been reset.
