We recently moved into our new house and several pieces of furniture just didn't work (or fit up the stairs!) and I'd like to donate them. Any recommendations on organizations in the area that will pick up larger pieces like sofas?
I have had great success using freecycle.org Each town (or seemingly) has its own group. You can post items on there and people will respond (often times many many many people) and they will come and pick up the items. I always posted that people had to be able to move the furniture themselves and have something to haul it away with...........
people were VERY happy to have the furniture and I knew they would freecycle their things they didn't need any longer as well.
Freecycle or Craigslist if you want to give it away to someone willing to come and pick it up. Vietnam Veteran's Association will pick up and Goodwill will pick up.
My late son was in the Air Force and I gave all of his furniture to "The Airman's Attic". They help young service men and women furnish apts when they move off base. You can call the Air Force base nearest you and see if they will come and get it.
What about Habitat for Humanity? They have a store in Durham. I'd call and see if they'll pick up.
Also, we donate all our furniture and related items to Harbor Shelter, which helps victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Their site said one can arrange furniture pick up;
