Building with M/I now. Previously purchased Pulte and Colony (now KB) and there is no comparison. Do some studying on home construction to see how a real house is built. They provide a 30 year structual warranty and you'll see why when you look closely at their construction.

Default Grey Stone

My parents just moved in to a MI Homes community in Cary (Grey Stone) and are very pleased with their home, as are their neighbors. The 30 yr warranty was a big reason they bought there too. Based on their experience I would def recommend.

My house was built by M/I Homes. Windows and doors were not properly sealed and led to rotten wood. The pipe from subpump was not connected to a pipe outside the house to drain water away from the house. Water just accumulated by the house. What 30-year warranty? No, they won't fix the damage.

There is no comparison to my previous house built by a quality local builder.

If I'm not mistaken, M/I's 30 year warranty is on the structure not plumbing or windows. I'm surprised your home inspector didn't find the issue with the pipe not being connected. Did you buy the home new or used? did you have an inspection? The windows and doors leaking sound like a problem that should have been identified long before you had rotting wood. Also it looks like you are referring to a home in Indiana, not here in Raleigh, correct?

About 8 years ago, we almost bought a Pulte home, and then backed out 5 days before the closing because of tremendous poor construction, poor customer service, Pulta staff misleading us every step of the way. After that, we chose M/I and bought a house in the Ridgemont sub-division. The entire experience - from construction to finish was so different than the Pulte experience. I agree the floor plan is not tremendoulsly fancy like Centex or any other builder in the same category, but they were very detailed, great construction, the customer service was excellent - and we were gun shy after being with Pulte and were over critical but could not find any fault at all. We are in this house for the 8th year now, there has been NO problems ( touch wood!) at all...it has been a great experience and given a choice we would go with them again...

D.
