When I was 14, I caddied at the local country club. Not sure if they even have caddies anymore. I see lots of kids working for the cities (e.g., swimming instructors, nature programs, etc).

My boys got certified by taking the Red Crosses babysitting course. Now they are a hot commodity. Boy teen baby sitters are far and few and they always have work. Best part is they can make their own schedule and it doesn't interfere with school.

You should have him get familiar with http://www.nclabor.com/wh/fact%20she..._state_fed.htm
I don't think the burger joints are going to advertise on line, eh? Retail food is the most likely source for a job. He will have to go door to door and fill out a lot of apps. Good training for later, of course.
He should be clean and neatly dressed, stand up straight and have a planned way to ask about a job. "You don't need a 15yo fry cook, do you?" is not a good start. "I am saving money for college and I'm eager to work hard for you!" is a much better start.
See you at the top!
