I am coming to Raleigh from DC this weekend and want to show my DC friends a good time. Does Raleigh have a gay/mixed club that plays hip hop? And no, Legends is not what I am looking for, nor any place that plays the type of music they do.

The CC (often erroneously called "CC's") right across the street from Legends, has Hip-Hop night on Thursdays, but you will probably miss that if it's a "weekend" trip, eh? Otherwise, I don't think any of the Gay-centric clubs would have hip-hop (you can check Steel Blue, on Hwy 70 in Durham, which has mostly Lesbians but is men-friendly and a lot of fun, to see if their music leans that way--probably not). So you'd need a "hip-hop" club that was gay-welcoming, I guess, and I can't help with that (about 20 years too old!).
I may have a contact who could offer help, here; I will email him and if I get an answer, I will PM you.
Thanks Francois. It seems that RDU has an underdeveloped gay club and bar scene. I was amazed to see so few offerings. Are there any gay lounges, similar to Halo in DC, that are not necessarily clubs but very nice bars with music?
I asked the one person I know who might have know about hip-hop places, and he said no.
To answer your question, not really. This area is MUCH smaller than DC (and the population boom is much newer) and much less urban, so of course our gay clubs are fewer between. The community here actually is thriving, but it's just not such a bar-going community, perhaps.
Too bad you won't be here next weekend, where there's a Gay Happy Hour (in some cities known as "takeovers") held in a 'regular' restaurant/bar.
The closest thing to a "lounge" (other than the piano bar at The CC, which is a separate room with a piano-playing duo) here is The Borough, a restaurant right near the bars in Raleigh that is gay-owned with a heavy gay (mixed) clientele.
People are telling me that Cary has a hip hop/urban gay or mixed club that is pretty good. They say that they have a hot hip crowd, play urban music, and even have male dancers. I am going this weekend and will report back.

Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing something recently about that place. I remember beng surprised that a hip-hop club, let alone a gay-targetted one, would be in Cary! Hope it's what you're looking for!
Yes, Solas is swanky; I've been to a Happy Hour there before. The Borough is more of a "bar plus light fare" kind of place that people often go to early before going "out" later.
Flex is more of a "Bear bar", not exactly a hip-hop place!
