Why do you think you made a mistake? What isn't working for you here?

No. I'm speaking for myself and my family since I was only seven when we moved from Palm Springs. My parents are so happy with the decision to move. So is my grandmother who followed 15 years later. Sorry it didn't work out for you. Doesn't always work out for people.

I lived in Scottsdale/Phoenix for a while. There are things I miss about being out there, and there are things here that I would miss if I move away as well.

Every place in the world has good and bad things about it, it's what you make of it.

I moved here from the Mesa area, where I lived for three years. I don't think I made a mistake. There are some things I really miss and some things I am happy to do without.

Default Missing the SW

Of course, each area is different. There are many things I enjoy here: summers that don't go on forever, spring, the gentle hills in and around the city, fall colors, winters where a little snow appears most years and the frequent educational and cultural activities at the universities.

I have found that inviting people home for dinner happens less here. And, one thing that I absolutely miss are streets with shoulders. Many of the streets/roads in and around the city seem to just drop off without any thought and to get from here to there is almost never a straight line. Finally, there seems to be that county, Johnston, where driving is not yet an acquired skill!

You are just the person I am hoping to speak with.

Could you please (if you have the time) compare Scottsdale to the Triangle area for me?

What part of the Triangle is most like Scottsdale? Is it anything at all like Phoenix/Scottsdale?

I am in Pittsburgh, PA now and we are desperate to move away from here because it's just not a good fit for us. After living in Scottsdale, moving to an old, run-down, beat up place with death-defying roads, NO retail or restaurants (seriously, there are around 5 places within a 10 mile drive to us and they are all dirty dive bar kind of places) and just really sloppy people with a dislike for clean air (nearly everyone smokes cigarettes) we can't take it anymore.

Help! thanks.
