Can anyone give me a realistic driving time from Cary to Boone on a Monday afternoon? It will be memorial weekend I think - don't know if that will make a difference trafficwise. Also which route would you take?
We want to get there reasonably quickly, but if there are places of interest (especially eating or shopping!) along the way that you feel are worth stopping or detouring for, please let me know.
Thankyou
Used to take 4 hours from cary but with the widening of 421 north completed its only about 3hrs. I don't recommend taking the first 421N \I40 business exit which takes you through winston salem its a little longer but faster to stay on I40 and take the next 421 exit after hanes mall.
i used to live in boone and made the trip to the triangle in a little over 3 hours. and in my opinion, there is nothing worthwhile between here and there. have dinner at cafe portafino for me!!!

O.K. We won't stop then
But where is Cafe portafino? Is it in Boone?
We are booked in to a lovely looking Inn for two nights - it's actually in Valle Crucis ( how do you pronounce that?). I think Boone and Blowing Rock are the two nearest towns which we're looking forward to exploring before driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Valle Crucis is beautiful, you''ll love it there. PLenty to do in that area. And defintiley heed the advice of staying on I 40 to go around Winston.
