Thanks for your response! My son was diagnosed with ADHD too a few years ago (he's 8 now) and in the second grade. He is very bright also (great reader, very articulate, etc.) is struggling some in math and with his handwriting but that's been ongoing since kindergarten. He is not on medication but with a good routine in class/school, he does really well and seems to get better each year.
He's at West Clayton Elementary right now but we've moved and the neighborhood we're in is split right down the middle between Cooper Elem. (where he's been before and liked) and East Garner and of course, our place is on the East Garner side. So, our two choices really are see if he can stay in Johnston County schools (but out of county tuition is a ridiculous $1750 per year) or register him at East Garner. I am intrigued about the year round aspect of the school and don't really have a problem with that. The main thing is the poor guy (for reasons beyond our control) has had to move around the first few years of school because of me losing my job, us having to move a few times, etc. He's done really well, but I'm apprehensive about starting him at another new school next year, but I think he'll be okay. My dad keeps saying he doesn't want him in Wake County schools, I think he's basing it on the rep Wake Co. has for the bussing, re-assigning, etc., but I will be taking him to school every day and he'll either be picked up by my mom or me and would be in their after school program, so I don't think his concerns are valid. Plus it's a fairly new school and didn't look like it had any mobile units (which he's been in for first and second grade now, so an actual classroom in the main building would be nice).
Anyway, sorry for the long-drawn out novel here. My son says he doesn't have a problem with starting a new school, but he basis his opinion on how new and fancy the playground equipment looks and so far, that looks good to.
But the respect and rule policy sounds great as well.
Thanks again for the feedback!
