Try craigslist or ebay. The sports card market isn't nearly what it once was.
Yeah, Most places now only buy single cards that are worth something. I remember the cards being real hot back in the early 90's when I was really into them. You can always put them in craigslist but I wouldn't get my hopes high that you are going to make a lot of mulah.
"Collectibles" are one of the first markets to tank during a recession, being very discretionary unless it's for a VERY rare, valuable item. If you've kept them this long, you might as well wait until the economy improves and you can get more for them. But, if you're desperate, try eBay, using the other prices/bids as a guide (go only by the auctions that actually have bids, since they show what at least one buyer is willing to pay).
I think there are some coin/card shops in town but it sounds like you've already called around asking. You might find out if there is a "Baseball card collectors" group in the area (even a Meetup group) he can get into?

The sports card market crashed way before this recession, I think the market peak was in the early 1990's. Some individual cards are worth something, but entire sets are mostly not. Economic recovery or no recovery, sports cards in general just aren't that valuable and probably never will be.
Cards are still valuable n certain ones always will be, iv seen them auction off for millions ,thousands, iv had sum for twenty years n hav sum wrth hundrefs n thousands, i wuldn sell them, they r still valuable its not tht they arent popular n wont ever be worth much like he said, its jus tht ppl dnt hav money to pay wht they are worth, n they are way more valuable to the person who has kept them foe decades, so dnt say or thnk they wont or will nvr b worth, bc the past has showed tht they are, hes wrng if u have a card 100 yrs old great condition he cant say it will nvr b wrth sumthn, they always will even the twenty yr old cards will b valuable n the future, i guess the gold ones i hav will nvr b wrth anythng either, im guessing tht guy isnt a collector or investor

My husband posted his on craigslist and a man who does shows came and went through them. They are not worth what they used to be, but he got some cash for something he no longer wanted to move around.
I had some collectibles that I wished to divest myself of a few years back. After running into one dead-end after another and being insulted with offers that made no sense I decided to rent a table at the flea market and sell directly to whatever buyers market there was. I made enough from my two days to make it worth my while.
And if you try and sell online everyone's going to want to know that the merchandise has been appraised, another stupid expense that erodes the value of whatever you're selling.
