Hi Guys,

I will soon be relocating to Kissimmee, FL from Columbus, OH. My parents will be closing on a very nice property this week that we got a great deal on so I will be in charge of the home part-time while they attend to their business in Ohio. I studied Economics for about a year at OSU and have experience with JPMorgan in foreclosure operations as well as brief attempt at a financial advisor career (life insurance sales) which didn't go well. I am looking for a fresh start in Florida and understand that the real estate market is on the up and up here. I am curious to know if there were any existing professionals in this industry, and what thoughts and advice they could give to someone who is interested in potentially joining the field. Obviously as a real estate agent or loan officer, I would need to line up part/full time employment while creating a pipeline for those positions to support myself.

Thoughts? Thanks so much in advance!

The two fields are very different and rely heavily on sales experience, moreso than formal training in other fields. Even with your background, you're not necessarily guaranteed to do well in either. If you want to use your background, you may want to consider being a loan processor or something of the like that doesn't require any sales experience.

The kiss of death, in my experience, is taking on steady full/part time work while establishing yourself in sales. Of course without it, you'll need savings or spousal income. It's a bit of a catch 22 that we all dealt with when new.

As a full timer, about 6 months in the office everyday, working phones, desk duty, etc.
