The sites like Zillow, Trulia, ect. are a huge scam and waste of money.
You think so? I've never paid for membership, but I've had leads come through there when I was doing property management.
Claim your listings and some leads should trickle in?

We're warned against wasting our time with them and honestly, I think they're a joke. I have clients who I've acquired other ways sending me addresses they see on those sites wanting to know if we can go view them. 9 times out of 10 they're already rented/under contract or inactive. I've never received a lead through any of those sites or realestateagents.com for that matter. Craigslist, Facebook, Twitter, ect. are where i'm most successful.

Surprisingly, my experience has been completely opposite. Craigslist has been a joke, so much that I stopped bothering with it.
Realtor.com has been very successful for me. Currently working with four buyers attained from there.
What's your thought about shared marketing platforms such as Boomtown and Kunversion? It seems to me that those tools perform commensurately with the buy-in from those using them. I've had 6-7 in the past few years. Among the same teams, some agents captured a ton of business, while the skeptics captured very little.
