I'd rather have a big house with a giant yard....I guess that is why I work...so I can afford what I want. Its great that they choose to live mortgage free, but I can do the same in a much more comfortable space. I am happy to see people being financially responsible! We need more financially responsible people out there.
I'm really fascinated by the 'tiny house' movement. I've seen a lot of videos on Youtube by Kirsten Dirksen about tiny houses throughout the world. Although this isn't what I'd choose for myself, I do have a disdain for the modern McMansions with 4000+ square feet.
With that said, my house is 1600 square feet on the main level with an additional 600+ square feet of finished basement area on just under half an acre. It's definitely big enough for DH & I and for our upcoming baby (and hopefully another child after that). We could probably cope with smaller, but this is a very comfortable size to us.
Major kudos to anyone who can live in Tiny Houses though! Very ingenious I would have to have about 5 storage units for all of my books and Mid Century Mod furniture and knick knacks if I lived in a 'Tiny' house, which would totally defeat the purpose!
me too! i love the whole tiny house craze. if i were in a different family situation, i would definately do it. as it is though my house is just under 1400 sq ft, so i think most people would say that is small. i have seen all of Kirsten Dirksen's videos and others' as well. i cant stand people who think they need an extra 1000 sqaure feet every time they get pregnant. we had our son while living in a 900 sq ft home and did just fine.
i hope in the next couple of years we will finally find our forever home and i am hoping it will be about 1000 sq ft.
Sorry - not a fan personally, though I'm glad that the family is happy and loves their own tiny house.
I know we don't NEED all the space in our current home (2400 square feet for two people - but we do have five grown kids, seven grandkids, and two sets of elderly parents - all or whom visit pretty often). I don't feel guilty for enjoying the comfort of plenty of space for everyone when they're here, and plenty of space to stretch out and be comfortable when they're not here.

To each his own!
I agree with you.
Those tiny homes are like living in a jail cell.
It is like the new thing now in Manhattan " Micro apartments", they are trying it out.
no thanks.
