My house is 35 years old and I would like to replace the shower/tub with a new one. I am thinking about
putting in a shower only as my husband and I never use the tub. We are undecided now if we will stay
here for 30 more years or move. We are mid 50's and no way close to retiring. Would this be a bad
decision in case we do choose to move regarding the resale value?
Thanks for any advice!

If you only have one full bathroom, yes, it should have a tub, for resale value. If you have several bathrooms (master bath, guest bath), then it's fine to install a large shower area. Someone with kids can always bathe them in the guest bath.

^^This.

Most buyers of smaller homes are young(er) couples with young(er) kids.
These folks will actually use that tub regularly and expect to have one in any house they'll buy.

What is normal for your type of house in your area? Any deviation less than normal will result in less interest or a reduced price when it becomes time to resell.

Exactly! Keep in mind no one here has seen your house or knows you neighborhood.

I'd say in any neighborhood it's pretty universal that you'll want to have a tub in your family bath, but if you're talking about a master bath then it's a totally different situation. For example, if you live in a neighborhood where most homes have a giant master bath with a seperate tub and shower and you just have a shower that could turn some people off.
