6,700 square feet is a decent-sized lot? That is, what, about .15 acre? Eeeek.

Unless you have several million to spend on land alone, yep.

A few of those homes look exactly like ours from the outside. What's even more tragic is that my husband paid more than $300K when he bought it 8-9 years ago. welcome to Long Island cost of living

In a way I miss the 800 sq ft house I grew up in with 3 siblings. Having a modest (by our metropolis standards) 2800 sq ft ranch home, the cleaning (yes we do our own cleaning) takes the entire week and then you have to start all over again....I do agree with the late George Carlin, we need to drop quite a few of our "needs"; however I don't miss trying to wake up extra early to beat the one-bathroom rush in the mornings:-)

I live in a small 1950 era home with my fiance it is 4 bed 2 bath and only like 1200 sq ft. We actually rarely use 2 of the bedrooms so We could probably live in a 2 bedroom house that was 700 sq ft or so and not miss much. I grew up in a 1200sqft 3 bd 2 bth home with my parents and us 3 kids and it was prefectly comfortable. People now think you need a 3000 sq ft house for a family of 4 it is crazy.
