I'm new to the forum here. I'm curious to see if there are any real estate professionals working in the Chicagoland area. I am just a couple weeks away from testing for my broker's license, so I'm getting some information on some aspirations I have.
I live in Southern Illinois, but eventually would like to relocate and work in real estate in a bigger city. Naturally, I think that Chicago would be a good bet, seeing as it would be somewhere in the state that my license would be for.
Can anyone give just some general information on what it's like working in real estate in the Chicagoland area? I'm sure I'll come up with some questions over time, but for now, I'd just like to hear from some people with experience about what to expect.
I'm 27 and I went to school at SIU-C. Not that it matters but wanted to share since you live in Southern IL.
I got my license in December 13 and am closing my first deal next tuesday if lending does not get screwed up.
I like real estate, choose a brokerage that will help you. The typical brokerages will have you host their open houses and send you off on your way..the #&(#@ work.
My brokerage helped me from writing contracts, to doing CMAs, to knowing pretty much all I need to know in order to write a deal from start to finish. I still don't know everything and still have to bug someone to help but at least I know there is someone there who can help me.
The hardest part is going to be finiding these leads to work with. My brokerage gives us leads to work which is great because none of my friends my age are looking to buy. Networking and marketing yourself is what is going to set you apart and that is what I am working on now. I just joined this forum to help me think outside of the box to market myself because the last thing I want to do is what everyone else is already doing.
