The closing on the sale of our house is scheduled for next week, around noon on a weekday. We're trying to find someone to watch the kids but the fact that it's a workday/school day is making it a challenge. How much of a faux pas is it if we end up having to bring the kids (ages 3 and 1) to closing? If we can't find someone to watch them for a couple of hours we'll have no other choice.

It happens all the time. Many Title companies keep toys for kids to keep them busy.

I've kept many a kid busy while mom and dad conduct business.

Agreed. Perhaps a more important question is: "Will you be able to concentrate on the details of the closing ... with your kids running around?"

Thank you, that makes me feel better. Especially since our last hope responded that she was unable to watch them. We'll take them to the park or something before the closing and hopefully get them to burn off some energy.

Obviously it's not ideal and I would prefer to be able to give the closing my full attention, but unfortunately we won't have a choice.

When we closed onb one house we did it in two stages because the movers were scheduled to arrive the same morning. I went down to the office and signed things then drove back to the house and my wife drove down and did her signatures. Took a little longer that way but kept the kids busy in the yard and made sure the movers stayed around and started unloading the truck (into the driveway)

But a 1 year old and 3 year old - food and toys, food and toys (or a DVD player :-) I would worry more about 5-9 year olds :-)

As suggested earlier, many title companies and/or Realtor offices my have a "play"area for the kiddies. Definitely don't take them to the closing room. You should call your realtor and ask to ensure that they can accommodate for you. It isn't unheard of a title agent being sent to a customer's home under special circumstances for a closing. Best wishes.

I have clients bring their children to settlements often. They are normally in the room with us. Bring snacks and toys and you should be fine.

I've known people who drive together to the closing or meet there if they work in different directions. They have the kids with them. The parent who is best with numbers and catching problems goes in, reviews the paperwork and signs. Then goes back to the car, is in charge of the kids and the other parent goes in for a quick signature.
