When I moved into my current home, the closet behind the front door was missed. Among the coats and umbrellas was a LARGE collection of cremated remains! Pets and family members, all stacked high. I'd say we had about 2 dozens urns, each with the remains of a pet or a relative of the previous resident.
My mom and stepfather purchased a home in Queens, NY in the early 70's. Us kids had the 2 bedrooms up in the attic area. We liked the rooms because of the slanted ceilings. There was a door in the wall of the attic. We kiddos opened the door and found boxes and boxes of porno magazines LOL.....we started flipping through them and ooohing and aaahing.....wow!!!(we were about 8-10 y/o) and my mom came up and saw us and freaked out hahaaa

This just reminds me of the work that is ahead of me when my
Mom passes and the house will be left to her children.
I keep reminding her to hire someone to remove all that junk from the attic that my deceased dad stored up there.
Took my husband 3 days to clean the fridge. <shudder>
I spent 2 days cleaning the fridge and I still couldn't use it (creeped me out even though it was spotless) so it went on Craig's List. Lesson learned, appliances included isn't that great of a deal.
The grossest thing….. so gross. I cleaned all of the toilets really good (I am a germaphobe) and noticed I needed to get rid of the creepy plastic seats and get wood ones. It took a month or so as it was low priority. Finally had enough of the weird feeling plastic seats (really people buy these!??!). When I took the master bath seat off to replace there was crap everywhere under the seat in areas that couldn't be cleaned with normal cleaning. In the holes to attach, on the screws…everywhere!
So gross…… another lesson learned…take apart the toilets and clean clean clean.
What really got me was that the place is only 10 years old, original owner. How did she crap all over and not clean it up, it was a brand new place!!? But I learned she was a horrible housekeeper (fridge etc!) so I am not surprised.

First house I bought with my husband, the day we were to move in found the place full of junk. The clincher was inside the closed master bedroom closet was a mother cat and her 4 or 5 newborn kittens, water, food and litter box. Gee thanks!
I too am surprised by how much porn people find. I'm guess sellers wait until the last minute to sneak it in and forget. How hard can it be to tape a box shut and label it "Insurance papers" or some such thing?
When a friend sold her house last spring, her realtor's gift to her was a half day housecleaning service. Just when she didn't think she could do one more thing, she didn't have to.
Once the movers cleared out all the boxes, she and her hubby went to a hotel. The housekeepers had it spotless by the walkthrough.
Wish more realtors would do that. I though it was a great idea.
5 grand in new appliances! We contacted the seller after we got the keys and he was like "Nah keep them..." He lived 3 States away and couldn't afford to move them all. Also some new in package Sears autocenter employee shirts, about 200 bucks in chlorine tablets, and a ton of used paint. That part irked me because I had to drive them all to the recycle center.
