  • very narrow
  • both the house and lot are exact rectangles
  • small backyard
  • no frontyard
  • built to the property line on 1 side and other side very narrow btw

i consider them detached townhomes.
therefore, if someone says "i live in a house" or "i just bought a house", it is not accurate. it should be townhouse, not house. agree?

Looks like you are trying to start a debate where non exists. It's not a detached townhouse, because a townhouse is an attached home. It is a single family home, and that is that.

No. We call those zero lot line homes out here.

but everything about it is the same exact thing as a townhome except that it is detached, that's why i say it's a detached townhome and should be characterized more as one

No. As far as I've seen it, townhouses are always attached in some way. A tiny house is still a house.

Merriam Webster Dictionary definition is: a house that has two or three levels and that is attached to a similar house by a shared wall

Based on that, this is a SFR. Some might call it a detached townhome or patio home.

Me - I don't sweat the small stuff. The new, happy owners can call it whatever makes them feel good.

This. You can't take away the defining feature in a townhouse of having a shared wall and say that it's a townhouse except that it doesn't have any shared wall.

And it sounds like the point of this is to be disdainful of those who buy a smaller home than you would. If someone buys a house like that, it's still a house even if the OP wants to look down his or her nose at it.

Go to older waterfront communities and you'll see a lot of these on 25 ft. wide lots.

Looks like a one story pool home without a pool and an extra floor.
