While I own this home, the next door people rent. Out of the blue after living here for a few years the husband next door got drums and is learning to play in his garage.
It's doesn't bother me or the kids as we don't hear it in most of my house. However our bedroom is near their garage and hubby sleeps earlier than I do. Or can't nap on weekends or even worse can't sleep late as he starts around 6 am on the weekends. And plays most evenings around 9-10PM. Hubby is in bed by 8 as he has to leave at 3AM.
I keep thinking if we go over and ask them to keep it down...how do you do it with drums? Is there a way to keep it quieter?
Sound Off pads. I used them. The same material as mouse pads but thicker. Towels in the bass drum. Tell him to google Sound Off pads, click shopping, and he should get a decent price.
I would leave them a note taped to the door or to their car (or send them an anonymous letter) to please not drum before 9 am or after 9pm. If they decide to drum earlier or later call the police or get ear plugs.
Not only do I live next door to a professional drummer, both of his teenage sons are drummers too! I had asked early on and they agreed to stop after 8:00 pm, and they have stuck to it.

Ask them to be considerate and if not then call the police and send a certified letter to the owner explaining the whole situation.
Thanks for the info! Good to know there are options he can explore, that's what I wasn't sure if there were. Hubby will probably pop over this weekend and have a chat with them.
