Just me? I'm ok with that.

House across the street but over one is for sale. Has been for an unseemly amount of time for THIS neighborhood. House is obviously overpriced for it's lack of maintenance and needs cosmetic upgrading (at best), most likely significant foundation work (at worst). It's an older neighborhood, and many reasonably priced houses will need work.

So I watch people come by and view the house. And I make a vote on whether or not they will stay more than 15 minutes (not many) or if I'd even want the as neighbors (Holy god please tell me all 12 of these people will not be moving in to a 3 bedroom).

With all due respect, you sound like Mrs. Cravits on Bewitched.

We live in a subdivision that is still being built. I had new homes going up all around me and I watched when people were looking at the spec home next door and across the street. I wanted to know if they had kids the same age, etc. I would purposely act like I was getting the mail so that I could see who was looking. I was just curious who might be my new neighbors. Sometimes they would even stop me ask me about the neighbor. I'm glad to say I now have fantastic new neighbors!

I think it's normal to be curious. I would be.

So, I guess my 600-row spreadsheet of all the homes built in this century in my 120-year old neighborhood would make me obsessed?

I wouldn't want neighbors who do loud activities like testing out muscle cars in their driveway, leaving a dog out in a cage to bark nonstop all day, having teenagers who are in a band and practice in their garage for hours, or having large get-togethers with 30 people in their backyard every weekend. In that sense, I would care... those type of people are the exception rather then the norm I've found... some people are more selfish and inconsiderate than others. Noise is the one thing that can affect other people's quality of life... when living in a suburban subdivision you should have consideration as to how your actions might effect your neighbors. Owning a home shouldn't be a ticket to just do whatever you want unless you have an acreage in the country.

I think it's completely natural to be curious! New construction is going up on the other side of the street from us - it's been just an open field, so it's a whole block of new houses and new neighbors coming in. My neighborhood is known for being very friendly and people more here specifically knowing that there is a fair amount of interaction (we have parties in our local pocket park, block parties, etc) so of course I'm looking forward to getting to know a new group of neighbors as I watch their houses get built.

Well if they are color coded, then that might send you over the edge to obsessed.
