Is a see-thru fireplace between the family room and a kitchen a nice feature? Or does this feature hurt the value of a house because its not a
*completely* open floor anymore?

when you say see through fireplace do you mean a double sided fireplace? The fireplace is in the middle of the main floor but you can use it from either room (example kitchen and family room)? I think it's going to depend on the buyer. Now me, I would LOVE that but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE fireplaces especially wood burning.

I love fireplaces, and a back to back fireplace would be a plus for me.

yes, surfingatwork. A double sided gas log fireplace in the middle of the main floor, useable either in the kitchen or the family room.

I love the two sided fireplaces, as well. A lot of the new high end homes here also have that feature in the master bedroom/bath...cool....very romantic i would say!

As a potential buyer, I love to see the two-sided fireplace in homes, so I'd think it's a plus.

But I don't know what you mean by the house not being "completely open floor anymore?" Do you mean the fireplace being there means there's a wall separating the family room and kitchen? If there wasn't a wall and fireplace there already, my preference would be no wall/fireplace and keep it open so I could see between the two rooms (especially important since I have a small child). But we're in California and don't use our fireplace. If there's already a wall, I'd think it's nice to add the fireplace that could be used in both rooms.

HTH.
