How much ham do we need? (turkey, best, soup, cooking)

We are eating with 15 people this year. At least 5 people are large eaters. How big of a Bone in whole ham should we buy?

You can use any ham bone for soups.

I love those big refrigerated hams - I mostly eat them without cooking, as I did just a few minutes ago.

I'd say to get the biggest one you can find, or two smaller ones. Probably 25 lbs would do it, as Lubby said.

Yes you can, but the honeyed ones make very good soup.

18-22lb skinless shankless ham

some hams have alot of waste on them,,, the "shank" is the cheapest but has 30-40% waste (unless you make a soup out of the bone, or give it to your dog)

the "semi boneless" is one of the best bone in hams - little waste- you could buy two of those- they are usually around 10-12lbs each

The biggest one they sell. Leftovers are good.

That is what I figure. It is better to have too much than too little and you can always use the leftover.

We grabbed a 21.77 lbs ham and as a backup a 10lb Spiral cut. Thanks to all.

Not for our family it isn't LOL. My mom made a 30 Lb. Turkey 2 years ago and there was 11 of us.
