Why they dont separate the potato peel?
We eat them both ways. We would not probably use the green potatoes without peeling off the green part. Although there is some toxicity in the green, I've never heard of anyone getting sick from it.
The skin on a baked Russet potato gets nice and crisp and is very good to eat. The type of all purpose potato you pictured can be baked, but it is preferably used for different things, like boiled, mashed, or potato salad.

Also in Italy we cook potatoes with peel at home, but in restaurants potatoes almost always peel.

Ste68, haven't you already asked these questions under "Food & Drink" category? You want to move to Florida, right?

"Indian pudding" made of cornmeal and molasses.

Anything made of pumpkin -- pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin soup...
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/13426/c...d=cardslot%202
Hamburgers and hotdogs -- there are many regional variations on each. Don't forget the corn dog, a hotdog dipped in cornbread batter and deep-fried.

Deep-fried strips of breaded cheese, breaded chicken, and whole Hostess Twinkies and candy bars deep-fried are quintessentially American. We even bread and fry our ice cream.
Texas toast -- enormous slabs of white bread smothered in butter and garlic and brown in the oven -- is an American breakfast and dinner essential.
So is fried cornmeal mush with syrup poured over it, and anything else made with corn or cornmeal, like corn pudding or corn chowder -- corn on the cob is the most basic and still one of the best.

The Philly cheese steak was invented in Philadelphia.
Pizza as we eat it here is an American invention, including bagel pizzas.
So is chow mein and anything doused in teriyaki sauce, which was invented in the USA.
Barbecued ribs. Again, there are a lot of regional variations. Detroit-style BBQ, for instance, always includes fruit, like apples or cherries, in the sauce.
The loaded baked potato drowning in cheese and bacon bits, or heaped with chili, or packed with roasted vegetables and garlic, is very American. So are potato skins -- baked potatoes with most of the white scooped out and replaced with things like cheese and bacon, sour cream and shallots, or even craziness like caviar.
Carrot cake smothered in cream-cheese frosting was invented here.
Anything you find labeled 'Tex-Mex,' or 'Cajun.'
Pecan pie is one of the glories of American cuisine.

BBQ in general is quintessentially American, and there are a bunch of regional varieties emphasizing various aspects.

Depends on where in America you are. First ones that come to mind are pot roast, barbecue ribs, corn bread, mashed potaoes and gravy, fried chicken, grilled t-bone steak.
