I'd have to know what her definiton of handsome is. To me it just sounds overly wholesome, that's all. Maybe I'm thinking of the word in a different way than most people use it...?

Ewww!!! There are two different types of "handsome" here. If a girl thinks a guy is handsome, it's because she is checking him out as a possible sexual love interest. But a mother thinking her son is handsome, is more of a mother being proud of her son.
