I saw a movie on SyFy last night about a bunch of college kids being terrorized by some crazy psychopath who made them kill each other to survive until only one was left standing. It got me thinking, would you kill your friends, or even your SO to save your own life?

That's an odd but kind of interesting question. The instinct to survive is extremely powerful but so is the bond between people who love each other. It would be easy to sit here in the safety of my home and tell everyone that I know I would sacrifice myself to save someone I deeply care about but I don't think anyone would know for sure unless it actually happened. I do believe that I could sacrifice my life for any of my family members without thinking twice about it or even a child who I didn't even know if I happened to be in those circumstances. I do think that the majority of individuals who have children would most likely give up their lives to save them because that bond is so powerful. When you change that circumstances to actually killing them yourself to save your own skin I feel fairly certain that most people couldn't do it and that would include their SO.
The only situation that I can think of in my life that involved something similar happened to a guy a knew in Montana, his wife and his wives parents. Their boat began sinking in the middle of a very large lake which I'd rather not name in case anyone I know might read this on the internet. What happened is that the guy went into a complete panic mode while getting into a little lifeboat and almost caused everyone else to drown because he just lost it and didn't want to die. Thankfully they all survived but I don't think I'd want to judge him unless I'd been in the same situation.

Silly question, of course I would absolutely not kill my SO (or my kids) to save my own life. I'd willingly give it up to save his, without thinking twice about it.

What a coincidence, I saw that movie last night too! But I only saw about 20 minutes of it and then fell asleep.

But, no, I wouldn't kill my wife to save myself, but I would kill myself to save my wife though.
