My favorite method of non-digital portraits (human - faces) is using graphite pencil. I shave graphite over the canvas with an exacto knife, take a paper towel and rub it in, then "carve out" the light with an eraser. It gives a very cool 3-D effect.

Thanks! A few years ago I experimented with some 3-D animations, using Daz. Expensive hobby, though.
