I think I would have just brought the six pack of beer in my plastic walmart bag, and ditched the wine.
What a funny thought!

You said they are friends ("7 families each are our friends"). If so, then you already know that's how they are so why be offended? You can shrug and accept that that is how they are or you can choose to be offended. Friendship would mean to me that you opt for the former, but you've already decided to be offended AND worse, to "get them back".

I'm with the others; bringing wine backwash is pretty tacky.

Booze is booze mon

If that happened to me and someone didn't actually draw my attention to it, I would have never given it a second thought. Now if someone brought over a 24oz can of pre-opened beer with plastic rap and a rubber band around the top, THEN that may even be tacky for my tastes.

The beer part I can understand; the wine part - not so much... unless you're really, really, really close friends and you know each other's financial situation, which may not be rosy.

No idea but may be true, I thought that was tacky like you said. If I know that sombody who can't afford it, that's OK but that's not the case here.

No, I don't know them really, really, really well. They came to us through friends. May be that's the problem. They are in a very good financial shape as far as I can tell. Like I said they were ready to fly Yesterday for vacation far away.
