In my opinion...the best roomate, either for a single male or female, are open honest fem gay males...

(I don't expect much response to this, but want to lay this out anyways..)

Let's start with why Hetro males can greatly benefit from fem gay roomates...

1. They're very clean and tidy...

I had one once...and they kept their side of the house totally spotless...clean, shiny...everything was bright and white, and or sparkling...I was impressed...
I considered myself tidy...but they made me look like a slob...

2. Open, out of the closet, gay males, are some of the most honest people you will ever encounter...

They don't hide much...and they understand persicution...as such, they have a certain fortitude about them...and they know how to listen without judging...(unless you attack their lifestyle)...

3. If they're fem...your kinda getting the best of both worlds...many fems still have a 'boyish' or 'tomboyish' side to them...and that can come in handy when you just feel like rough housing a bit..... or watching a game or other semi manly stuff...

4. Because they are 'fem'...they won't 'get in your way'...ego wise...

Hetro guys living together have egos to deal with...each others...like placeing to alpha Lions in a closed space...

With a fem guy...it's understood your the alpha, and their the beta...which brings balance to the household...

5. Asteticly...they usually just look better...cleaner, sharper...cause they make their looks a priority...(at least the younger ones)...

I've heard horror stories about women and the sloppy hetro husbands, dirty underclothing, dirty socks, dirty jeans, with fem guys, you don't gotta worry about all that...their tidy and clean...

It's almost like living with a woman, inside of a mans body...

The only concern is, not allowing them to develop a crush on you...cause then they start getting jelious and acting like a female every time you go out...

There's different degrees of feminality in fems...

Some just look it naturally...but act and behave straight...(they can't help that their biology has them looking more fem than some females)...

And other fem gay guys act very or slightly fem, but appear as an average 'male'...you might only know their fem, when they talk, or through other mannerisms...

And then some fem gay guys...look masculine...but in their minds, they are 'feminane'...
This can be the oddest of the combinations, and throw people off the most...

Kinda like if Hulk Hogan was 'fem'...it would throw people off...and make many uncomfortable...

But to each their own...find the fem of your choice...

I'm simply saying...next time your looking for a roomate...specifically request a fem gay guy...and I think you'll be glad you did...

note:
What you don't want is a closeted Craigs list type of gay roomate...

Their natures are totally different than open gay fems...

Closet gays are a tormented class...and are very dishonest...they haven't learned how to deal with their 'affliction'...

So rather than just fully swear it off or embrace it, they tease it.

As such they can be amongst the most dishonest of the gay class, and probablly the largest...

I'd much rather have a open, confident, playful out of the closet, gay roomate who had a sense of humor about sexuality...

Than some lurking, dishonest, spying pretending to be straight, type of roomate...who would probablly sniff your shoes
while your gone...

And closet gays tend to have a lot of built up hostility...not good for a roomate....

And sometimes will act more 'anti'gay' than regular hetro guys...(I've had some admit this fact to me)...

But then again...I suppose if they were closet gay...you would never know...cause their masters at faking people out...
Many women are married to such men...

Sometimes a non-affeminate gay couple seems more practical. I mean, here you have two guys who can be handymen, move furniture around, fix the car, carry heavy things, etc. They can both take care of each other and on their own. No need to be each other’s body guards. Both contributing to expenses since the beginning since there are no gender cards played, I mean, both are guys so. More sex, less headaches and dramas. Since there are no gender cards played the relationship pretty much revolves around both, not just one of them as male/female relationships go where it is required for the man to do it all.

Yes, but we're speaking 'roomates' here...not couples...

Not love, not romance, just roomates...

Although in any roomate situation feelings will develope towards your roomate to one degree or another, either favorible or unfavorable...

Oooooh ok. Then yeah, a male roomate seems more practical than having a female roomate really. I had a male roommate when I went to study to another country. We didn’t have to be gay to do the things you describe. We would clean up after cooking and eating. Either take turns cooking, leave some food prepared for each other, or just, say, make a BBQ together just like guys do when watching the game with bunch of friends. Don’t remember going to class and leaving dirty dishes and pans or the bed undone, pizza in the living room, etc. Nope. He went out with girls just like I did. It was quite practical. I rather be with a girl I like than a guy as a roommate but I have to admit it seems more practical to have a guy roomie.

Well I can see your point, but if you're a straight male who is trying to date, you might miss some chances at dates b/c some women would be a bit leery of you. I'm a straight female who had an effeminate gay male roommate one time and we had a lot of fun together--our best bonding times were when we were getting ready for work in the morning and he'd crowd me out of the mirror when I was putting on my make-up--he was putting his on too. Later it didn't turn out so well b/c he was a slob and he ran the phone bill up to a very large amount talking to his boyfriend out in California. Still I have good memories of him. The best thing about him was that he was such an entertaining and catty gossip.

Then I married a gay man, unbeknownst to me and he was a pretty good roommate for 25 years, albeit with none of the advantages that the OP mentioned, but now I want to live with a straight man lol. I wonder if it's any different.

fem gay men (stereotypes) are way over rated.

Many women are married to either gay or bi-curious gay men, and don't know it...

When I was a member of a certain photo sharing site...I would post photos...more outragious than the ones on here...and I would hear from a lot of frustrated older married men who would share personal stuff with me about their sexuality...

I was actually trying to attract 'rocker women'...but instead ended up attracting older lonely married males...very odd and revealing...

But I'd still rather have a open fem male roomate...their just more honest and fun...and are good listeners...

But some can be as you mentioned above to...bratty, spoiled and reckless...

Give me a fem roomate any day over a dull, beer drinking belching, hairy, unkept hetro male...

If I have to look at someone everyday...i'd rather they look cute...

Like eye candy...I can handle cute and chatty in a male, as a roomate...but couldn't handle hairy, musty, and dirty smelly socks...

Admittedly I'm basing a lot of that on my own personal experience...

But I think what I'm trying to say is...I like honesty...open gay people are honest...they learned to be that way long ago...

You, might not like their value system, but their honest...and I find that refreshing...you always know where you stand with a honest person...

I'd rather have a open honest fem male roomate, than some creepy repressed closet gay, who only pretended to be straight, while peeping at you walk out the shower...

Undercover gays are tormented by their sexual affliction...and it changes their demenor...
