But like a lot of other holidays, the meaning has changed over the years.

Christmas used to be about religion, but now it's just about materialism.

You're probably also working, since you went onto one of my threads and said how you're so much better than me because you support yourself during college.

It's been a day to celebrate romance and love for centuries. Wikipedia says:

Quote:
The first recorded association of Valentine's Day with romantic love is in Parlement of Foules (1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer[18] Chaucer wrote:
For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese his make.

It hasn't been anything else in a long, long time. Do some people go overboard? Yes. But it's not a new holiday or a new meaning to an old holiday. It's a day for lovers.

What I meant was the way people celebrate the holiday has changed. In the year 1382, people didn't buy Hallmark cards and a box of chocolates. I doubt they made single people feel left out in 1382 either.

"When every bird comes there to choose his mate"--maybe the birds without a mate did.

I will spend a couple of hours on QQ, video chatting with my future wife, I'll send her an electronic card but most important is we will spend some of it together, even if we are 8,600 miles apart.

I wanna know how are you going to celebrate your valentines day? Since you guys are single? are you going to mall? clubbing? drink till you drop?
or are you gonna just stuck yourself in your room and sleep???!!! (that's what im planning to do! LOL)
I'll have to look at the calender to see what day it is on. If it during the week I have to work and don't plan to do anything. It's no big deal. I've been burnt during V-Day before and don't care much for it since.
