Poor you. They have priority seating in every car. You can actually demand their seats I thought the harlem line folks behaved better with all the folks going to westchester and the like.
I just have to say that suits don't buy manners and class. Some idiots think it's okay to put the shoes on the opposing seat when there's another person sitting in that opposite seat. It's really outrageous as to how some guys conduct themselves in public transport.
Oh - I've always gotten a seat on the Harlem line. I was riding the 2 train from 125th Street to W. 96th Street and back when nobody would move for me. If had been Metro North - believe you me, I would have demanded a seat! I'm not standing for over an hour! A few stops on the red line, I can handle though.
What's really unfair is that had it been an attractive lady demanding the seat, they would have had no problem giving it up . Hey, men have just as much right to a seat like anybody else!

No, no, no, plenty of women end up standing for an hour's journey. The men just sit there with their little toys. It's not like what you think, NY men are just scatterbrained and selfish. They don't wannabe seen as sucking up to a woman or something.
I offered my seat once and the guys next to me joked, "Good Samaritan" in a sarcastic way

That's totally true. Men always move right over for me. It really is unfair. People should move right over for everyone. It's not like they bought 2 seats.

It tends to be like that in big cities. There are very few people far and between who still posses manners. It's quite refreshing to encounter men who still let the ladies get on first or offer their seats up- even though I believe that should be the norm!

I don't ride trains or anything, but I do some of those things you mentioned. I admit, I'm not going to put my jacket down on a puddle of water for her to walk through. Seriously, I paid a lot of money for my jackets, and letting someone just walk all over it is not in it's plan.
But yeah I do open the door for women, and I offer my seat for women and elderly when at a social event.
