Hawk, those are even prettier than the ones I have in my yard - I have 5 lilac bushes - 2 are huge and quite old, 3 are much newer and bloom when the others die off. For about 3 weeks my yard has the neatest smell of lilacs and is so pretty. We've already decided where the lilac bushes are going in our new yard when we move - NOT SOON ENOUGH! I WILL miss the mulberry bushes (2-30' trees actually) but hubby says he will NOT miss the mess of the berries all over.
As for pierogies - I make some really incredible ones - everyone loves them - cheddar cheese, potatoes, and onions for filling. Gently boiled, then lightly sauteed with polish sausage (a/k/a kielbasa) - alas not MY homemade but still homemade from a butcher back in my hometown.

Hubby tells a story about a trip to the Sandia Mts with a new guy on the team (EOD training). They stopped for lunch and told him that the green chili soup was safe to eat, but stay away from the red. Red/green just like traffic lights. So this guy had a big bowl, loved it, had a 2nd bowl. With some egging from his "friends", he had a THIRD bowl. Loved it. All was fine until a little before "oh dark thirty" and he raced for the latrine. Snickers from the peanut gallery as they heard first a whimper and when that turned into a scream, they couldn't help but laugh - until the cloud of noxious gas seeped down the hall.
My chili is good - it's right on the edge of really spicy.
