I live in the south also and contrary to popular belief racism is not a problem. I see tons of interracial couples and I live in redneck central, population 2500.
The only draw back I can think of that was a concern for an Indian friend of mine (feather, not dot) when her daughter was engaged to a white man is that it will eventually dilute the "races". Some see that as a good thing, but it would be a shame to lose the diversity and the distinct beauty each individual race has.
That will never be lost. What will be created, however, is even more diversity and distinct beauty. What we have now is many people (especially in the Latino, Native American and African-descended groups) who carry ancestry from two or three or even more racial backgrounds, and that's a good thing.
I didn't vote, mostly because I have a few double standards when it comes to Interracial relationships. I don't have kids, but let's say my daughter brought home a Korean guy. I wouldn't care one bit. Latin American men are okay in my book.
Now if she brought home a black guy(even a Latino black) I would not be exactly thrilled. A Muslim guy would never be allowed in my house.
Anybody who has children runs the risk of having their child bullied. Should we stop all people from reproducing??
For me I'll lay blame squarely where it belongs, on the bullies and their parents.
Yes, it's the responsibility of parents to keep their children from being bullies, and it's also the responsibility of parents to prepare their children to deal with any possibility of them being bullied.
