Well, one thing is that we need to make a distinction between living alone and being alone, or being isolated, or feeling lonely. These are all different things. In fact, people who live alone tend to spend more time socializing with friends and neighbors than people who are married. So one thing I learned is that living alone is not an entirely solitary experience. It’s generally a quite social one.

This is relevant to my interests since I'm newly single for the first time in a long time and I'm living alone.. I've never lived alone for any large stretch of time before in my life.

I'd agree with the portion you quoted. I find I want to actually go out and do things with others much more now that I'm living alone, because if I want to have some human interaction I actually have to go get it...it's not just going to be waiting for me when I walk in the door like it does when you live with someone.
