Ok, I am not sure if this is in the right forums or not, but I have been hanging out with this girl that I met, mainly just in school, but we've talked about meeting up outside of school a few times. We both study full time and work ridiculous hours.. not easy..

Anyways, I don't text much, at all I should say. I have however texted her twice but she hasn't responded either time.

My question is, how do I know if I'm supposed to put a 1 before her area code or not?

Is there a certain distance, she has a different area code than mine, and her area code is actually listed as an out of state area code, because she lives close to the border. Is it possible that she's simply not receiving my messages? It doesn't make sense that she would ignore my messages.. because she's usually the one coming to me in person, not the other way around.

If I send a text and it doesn't go through, I get an error message.

I have had this happen before when I had a friend who was long distance, and he didn't receive my messages until I put the 1 in front of it. I didn't receive any error messages either

I've heard that whether you have to dial '1' first or not doesn't just depend on the distance between you, but also on where you live (larger cities may require more of this than smaller towns) and even what phone company you each have.

That being said, have you tried both ways? If so, there's likely something wrong with her phone or phone company.

Yes call. Btw I'm not surprised you still go to school, haha.

Oh yeah you Americans call uni or college or whatever school, how confusing, or are you still in high school?

Some phones have a message delivery confirmation option. Try to call or email...

Nope, I haven't tried with the 1 in front of it, but I think I'm going to add a 1 now, and then see if she responds to it some time over the weekend or something. If she doesn't respond to either, then I either saved her number wrong when I switched phones or she's flat out ignoring them

Why not make a phone call? In some cases texting works for discussing logistics, but anything that you can text you can call and say.

Are you in the states? if you are then you don't need to put 1 before a number, the area code will suffice.

All in all don't jump to conclusions just yet young padawan, It's not a big deal.

I don't have to put a 1 in front of long distance texts but it may depend on your carrier?

Is it possible she doesn't have a text plan on her phone? That could be why she's not responding as well. I know it's not common these days to go without a text plan, but if she's got a pay-as-you-go or a cheaper plan she may not be able to receive text messages.

Call her!
