I can see how that would work, I think people would think it was weird if a person was just wandering around by themselves, but with a dog you have a purpose. It's a little less threatening.
Damn guess some must think I'm weird live 2 mins walk from shops will often leave the car at home and give the legs a stretch.

I don't even have a car and will often go for long walks with one (or more) of my cameras (since one of my hobbies is photography). A 33 year old man walking alone taking pictures gets more dirty looks than you can imagine, even if he's just taking pictures of scenery.

I think since most people don't smoke anymore they don't have that built-in "do you have a light?" icebreaker. Now they have to bring in small animals to seal the deal.

How about, 'nice day we're having here, isn't it?' The weather is always an ice-breaker.
In US of A, it is completely legal to take pictures of anything or anyone as long as the photographer is in a public place. THis means i can go on a city street, and zoom into your backyward and take 2000 pictures if i want to. No one who likes photography should ever worry about dirty looks or people being unhappy about their picture taken in public, becasue if they do - they make it only harder for all the other photographers out there. Ive had CHicago Police try to deny me my right to take pictures in public and i basicaly told them to **** off and look up the laws and gave them my lawyers name and number. I know, i carry my camera with me everywhere.

It's called an ice-breaker...just a way to get a foot in the door, not the main event.
