You're going to have to get over the awkwardness. The only way out of your predicament is forward. Bite the bullet. Use those shining social skills you insist you have. You say you're baffled how men find girlfriends. Men are telling you how they find girlfriends, so you shouldn't be baffled anymore. It's a matter of doing it. If you can't break through the awkwardness barrier, get a shrink for a few months. It would be an investment in yourself.

The Zen of it is that if you don't *try* to attract a gal, that is when you will attract one. Just keep building yourself up, in terms of muscle, in terms of job and financials, dress well, etc.

If you have a hobby that you like, get good at that, it won't hurt. Or some sort of volunteer activity.
