it seems to me that kids are dating at younger an younger ages...
what do you all think?
i think kids could stay innocent and only date later...and certainly nothing physical until they are BOTH 18 years old...
if thats the legal age for marriage, it might translate to the legal age for any serious relationship...

How would you enforce it?

I think a lot of parents hope that their teens will not have physical relationships until they're 18 or older. But honestly, how old were you when you had your first physical relationship? And did your parents know and approve of it?

I don't think we can expect our kids to wait any longer than we did. Kids are going through puberty earlier than they used to, they're exposed to a lot more sexual content online and on tv.

The problem is that you cannot enforce it. I had a boyfriend at 13 yet "wasn't allowed" to date until 16. My advice is the keep the flow of conversation open. Hard and fast rules like that are the most fun the break You must remember this mentality right?

PS- Another illustration:

I was already sexually active w my 16yo bf, and as we walked to the park one night, his mom yelled to us "No Kissing!"

What's so magical about the number 18?

I don't think there is anything magical about the day a person turns 18.

Correct. A sheltered 18-year-old is not likely to make smart "dating" decisions.

I despise "head in the sand" parenting.

Don't make such a big deal out of dating. It makes them more curious about what goes on while on a date.

The kids whose parents forbid it become the sneakiest ones.
