I had this coworker once who I had been flirting with to no avail.
One day this dude comes into the shop and ends up in a very heated argument with one of the other employees. I over hear this and rush over and diffuse the situation with wit and humor.

It's great in a bar situation. Have your friend act rude, drunk, and abrasive at a girl, then "save" her from him and use that as a springboard for a conversation.

What? You mean to tell me that honesty works? You mean that just being yourself can be effective? I wonder why more people don't try it instead of subscribing to these notions that they have to be in a certain league, or do something to impress a woman , etc...
Certainly not fail proof with this gal as this plan relies on the gal not being able to defend herself and that's not me.
Many creepy losers in my opinion tried that with me and it ends up badly for him and his friend(s) who was supposed to attack/harass me. In street situations it ends up with the friend(s) being shot as I always have my gun with me and in social situations it ends up with the friend(s) being maced, tazed, and then repeatedly ball busted (stomping on his genitals).
The easiest and quickest way to impress me is to look at my face and not my boobs and actually be interested in something I'm interested in. If you mention some weird fact or teach me something then I'll probably be all googly eyed all night long.
While I do know a few girls who would be 'impressed' by grandiose shows, I've found most gals are impressed if the guy simply pays attention to what she says and doesn't stare at her boobs. That seems to be a rare quality these days.
