It's difficult to set up a date with a woman from a cold approach, but if you try to set up a date with a woman familiar with you, the odds that she won't flake are slightly better. The places to develop familiarity can be the a classroom, a gym, a meeting place for hobbies, a social circle, or the workplace.
Several city-data members claim to have married someone from work, or at least know someone who did that.
...yet, from my own anecdotal evidence, I've seen a man get fired for attempting to date a worker. The advice against workplace dating is not uncommon.
So, what do y'all think, is it yay or nay for dating @work?

I met my husband through work - but our work is slightly different from the norm.
I'm a performer and my husband is a stagehand. We met on a national tour of a show. We were on tour for 9 months - so that's 9 months of seeing the people that you work with almost 24 hours a day. There are usually a lot of "tourmances" as they call them. Some work out, some don't. Some turn out to be disastrous. Obviously, ours had a happy ending! I met the person I was with before my husband doing summer stock. He was a guitar player. We were together for over 3 years.
I think it's fine as long as you and a potential date/partner are not working side by side. Even then I think it will be fine but on a temporary basis only. If that's the case then one of you all should have other future plans.
I think it's fine but just use a bit of common sense. I think it's maybe a bit harder if you're the boss of someone you want to date, but lord knows I've seen hoards of bosses go for it too. I would totally do it if I felt like the payoff might be what I want.
I think so much depends on what your work place is like. In theatre - it's pretty much par for the course. In a small office where everyone knows each other and sees each other all the time - I can imagine it could turn out horribly. In a big company where you don't see everyone all the time - it might not even be noticed. I have friends that met through work even though they lived on opposite coasts. It was a huge company and they started off just talking on the phone a lot about a project or something.
