I don't think I have set up hardly any dates with new people over the phone in my life. Regardless of where I meet them. Online, the bar, the beach, the gym, etc. etc. etc.
How hard is it to say, "meet me on the pier at 7 p.m. and we'll walk around and stop somewhere to eat."
Done, now you can spend the next few hours obsessing over all the far larger ways for you to mess up the date other than being concerned with why you two are texting instead of talking on the phone.

Texting for a date equals too lazy to make a personal call which equals not really interested, in my opinion.
