I know a lady that told me she has more chance of getting stuck with lightning to find a date after 50. She has never been married and I wonder what makes this harder to find a mate?

Yes. My mom is in her mid 50s and has two guys interested in her. Doesn't seem to be to big of a difference between young and old dating. Just location and how you carry yourself.

A mate? Or a date? Two different things.

But the obvious answer to both is demographics.

Because by age 50 more people are out of the dating pool: married, in a relationship, dead.
By age 50 people have become pickier and more set in their ways
By age 50 people just aren't that interested anymore

Is there a reason you're posting this type of topic over and over, just recently? Are you looking for a date, or are you just trying to post controversial topics? I don't believe that you spoke to a woman who said that. Anyone that age who had tried would find it very easy. Both your OP's in this general vein have contained very hyperbolic language that doesn't reflect the way real people talk.

I really, really wish these types of threads would get added to the banned topics list, under the rest of the attention-seeking drivel about age or height. The search function on this site works really well and people don't use it because they want us to coddle them instead of taking actual advice.

Here are some threads that already exist, in addition to your previous one that was the exact same question minus 20 years, that may help you commiserate:

My uncle just got married for the first time at 57 and he's not exactly a catch. My aunts are 59 and 60- one is engaged and the other one has a live in boyfriend. None of them are catches.

This reminded me of my best friend's aunt, who is at least 50 and she's been steadily dating a 50+ yo man for years now. He's got health problems and isn't exactly a catch, but is employed and has a great sense of humor, for what it's worth. They both seem very happy right now and even got through the stress surrounding the emergency visits and medical issues.

There are plenty of chances to find a date after 50, 60, 70, etc. You just have to take the opportunity rather than second-guessing it all day.

Isn't John a male name? So, why is the OP so interested in the dating options of women over 30, 40, 50? Don't get it...
