Study says, "Data are limited on sexual behaviors of middle school students. Based on an average of reports from 10 states and 6 large local school districts, 19.8 percent of middle schoolers have ever had sexual intercourse."

That's why I said at SOME schools.

Plus, there's this whole issue with whether certain acts are sex or not. I'll say when I was in middle school, sex was not all that common.

We did have a few folks who were open about it and there was an incident where students were caught and 2 of the students actually contracted genital herpes cause the third party didn't inform them she had it, but it wasn't all that common.

But high school truly opened up my eyes to the various lifestyles young men and women live. And by the time I graduated high school, there were quite a few young girls coming into high school who already had 1 year olds.

It might also be a socioeconomic thing. A lot of the girls who were sexually active at young ages or promiscuous or teenage parents were lower income and usually the children of immigrants from Latin America.

Nearly one out of five. If that doesn't put it well within the range of normal, I don't know what does.

Or perhaps talking about it just wasn't all that common.

20% of something does not put it even close to a majority, so hardly "the norm".

That's what I was sort of thinking too... don't know how 1 out of 5 is well within normal or whatever verbiage was used... simple math here applies...

I'd say 7 or 8 out of 10 would more likely qualify as "well within normal"...

Not 1 out of 5.

Normal is usually what's standard or expected...

I don't think having sex at 14 is standard or expected.

It's not very hard an above average woman to accumulate that many partners if she really put her mind to it.

But the point is, the vast majority of women DON'T. Again, the average American woman has 6 sexual partners in her whole lifetime.

I take sex surveys with a grain of salt. Men over report and women underreport

Plus there's this whole discussion of what "counts" as sex. I remember a guy who told me he counts oral sex as a sexual partner(no vaginal) and I also remember a girl who told me any sex outside of a relationship doesn't count lol.
