So I came close to signing up with a matchmaking service a few weeks back. It was pricey ($2,500 for 4 months), but that wasn't what killed it for me.
I did some research and found out some things about them that were highly offensive to me. Would these things be offensive to you?
1) They charge men, but women can join for free. Not only is this a double standard, but it also seems very sugar daddy-ish.
2) They had an article on their site trying to convince women to date short men (I'm a short man), basically saying that short men compensate for their height by being overly nice, good providers, etc.
I found both to be highly offensive in equal proportions. For that price, I should not be made to feel so offended (in my opinion).
Charging men but not women is capitalism--the law of supply and demand--and nothing more. Is it sexist? Yes. Would it annoy me if I were a man? You bet. But you, as a consumer, have the choice not to buy in.
The part about short men is just insensitive and tacky. If the matchmaker is going to coach women on that, it should be done in private, not where men can see it. "Consider your audience" applies here.
Sounds like you made a good decision in not forking over any money to that place.
Nope, not offended. It's just another example of free enterprise. I'd personally never sign up for one of these ever as it kind of has an air of desperation, but if other guys don't mind spending $600+ a month to get a date that's their choice.
If you have enough money to drop $2,500 on a dating service, you shouldn't have an issue getting dates without them.
Mod cut.
@OP, neither one of those issues would bother me. I think it is self evident that a big problem with matching making services where women pay is that the women will have inflated standards, and you will get a lot of over weight professional women.
