I had no idea it was a trend. In fact I haven't heard them mentioned in almost a decade.
I could see getting them in this scenario: you're too young to get married, but you want to show devotion to each other OR he can't afford an engagement ring yet, but he wants to make that kind of commitment anyways

I have been hearing and seeing about them as late.
Is it just a new trend going ?
What is the point of them?
New to kids maybe but that tradition has been ongoing since some jeweler somewhere figured out how to make more money with a promise ring which is sort of like a pre engagement ring.
I heard it briefly years ago in HS. When I heard about them then, it was the kids promising to get married after HS. A kid version of an engagement ring for some I guess. I never paid much attention though.
Promise rings are for teenagers in love, who both promise to stay together until they are ready for marriage or until they break up, but typically a meaningful gift. I also think it can be associated with mutual abstinence in their relationships.

haha, my same thought!
I also heard of it when I was in h.s. and I thought it was the lamest thing, though deep inside, I wanted a guy to give me one lol
I got one for my high school girlfriend over a decade ago. It seems really lame in retrospect, but she wanted a ring and I reciprocated.
