Depends on how it's done. If someone spoke to me like the woman at the bar did to you, I would be offended.

But far as the message you got, that wouldn't bother me.It'd be something I shrug off.

Probably resting ahole face. I've been told that I look like (and act like) an ahole.

Still though, inappropriate comment.

I was very surprised and taken aback when she said that. Yes, I was pretty pissed afterwards, but tried to not let it affect my night.

I've previously been told to smile in a humorous way. It totally made me laugh & now I don't actually realise I'm smiling till someone else smiles back at me & it happens a lot.

I wouldn't be offended at all if someone told me to smile.

I'm not offended but I do think it's rude to walk up to a stranger and tell them to smile when you have no idea of anything about their life and why they're not smiling. It could be BRF, or maybe their mom just died.

This. It's not my job to make you feel good - if you don't like me or my expression then feel free to move along. And just because a couple guys have had this said to them, women still hear it MUCH more often - like they're geishas or something.

It's an offensive thing to say to a stranger.

Oh for god sakes, let's not turn this into a pissing contest to see who has it worse.

I don't think I've ever been told to smile, and it isn't something I would say to others. I can't say I'd be offended, though.
